Save the Date: Second Saturday of September

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

For many, autumn can be a season of sadness:  the weather cools, leaves turn and fall from the trees and children are forced to abandon the idle pleasures of summer and return to school.  But three days in September will make this an especially sad fall for me:  on September 9th my divorce becomes official, on September 10th I turn 29, and on September 11th, well, September 11th is September 11th and sad for everyone.

But there will be a bit of sunshine this autumn:  on September 8th I will be in an art show on zines at the Sol Collective gallery in Sacramento.  Besides showcasing my three previous mini-comics I’ll also be debuting a new mini-comic, my first with new material in some time.  I’ll also be creating an installation and updating my web site for the show, so stay tuned for updates as they develop.

I hope to see all of you there!

My Simpsons Avatar

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Following the lead of Mike and Chris once again, I created my very own Simpsons avatar:

Some of the options were pretty limited, and this isn’t as accurate a representation of me as the Simpsons avatar Phil drew of me in my yearbook way back in 1992:

Nor is it as accurate as the South Park avatar Kim made of me:

Still, it was fun. Making avatars has always been one of my favorite aspects of games like Tony Hawk and the Wii’s Mii feature, and I would often spend hours fine-tuning my little electronic self. Which, given the fact that I could have spent that time drawing self-portraits instead, is kind of sad.

Any friends who make a Simpsons avatar of their own, send it to me! Phil and Shane should already be all over this!

Special fun fact: I wrote this post on July 7, 2007, or 7-7-7, and avatar, according to dictionary.com, means, “The incarnation of a Hindu deity, especially Vishnu, in human or animal form.” Coincidence?
