My iPod’s Top 25

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

My friend Mike, AKA “The Callipygian,” posted 6 of his iPod’s Top 25 Most Played Songs on his blog, with an explanation of why he loves each of them so much. I thought this was an idea good enough to steal (as did he, since he apparently stole it from someone else himself), so I’m listing my Top 25 here in reverse order. I don’t have the time to explain why I love these songs so much, but I will post how many times I’ve listened to each. I also thought this would make a fun myspace bulletin post that people can copy and repost to share with friends, so check for it there, too.

My Top 25:

25. “Such Great Heights” by Iron and Wine; 29 plays

24. “Sad but True” by Transplants; 30 plays

I love the way she says “comeback” at the end of the line, “I know how you’re doing by a look at your pants / and this is how we call it a comeback.”

Ooh la la.

The Triumphant Return of Elder Baggs from his Mission of Glory

My youngest brother Matt returns from his mission in South Africa this Friday!  I haven’t seen him in two years, so I can’t wait!

Today Is Lola’s Birthday!

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Lola turns four today, which, in dog years, makes us the same age. She asks that rather than sending presents you make a donation to her favorite charity.

I’m really proud of the old girl. On Friday we passed Beginner Education at obedience school. Lola can now sit, stay for 30 seconds and ignore super-tasty treats in her path if I tell her “leave it!” She still has a little trouble with the “down” command, but our teacher was kind enough to pass us anyway when I explained it runs in the family (Like a horse, I sleep standing up). Once we’ve mastered “down” I’ll be enrolling her in the intermediate class.

When you blog about your dog, does that mean it’s time to sign up for Dogster?

Commissioner Gordon is a Dick

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

In the spirit of sites such as Superman is a Dick, which use imagery from old comic books to prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that Superman is a dick and Batman is a pedophile, I present the following panel for your consideration:

From The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller (with Klaus Janson, Lynn Varley and John Costanza), Book II, Page 2, Panel 8.

Sorry for Not Blogging

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

So, it’s been over two weeks since my last entry and I want to say I’m sorry.  Not so much to you, the readers, but to myself because I love writing and blogging has been a lot of fun.

However, I would like to thank you, the readers, for reading my writing.  As much as I love blogging, I’m needy and insecure and probably wouldn’t write anything if I didn’t know someone was out there was reading it (Does that means I love readers more than writing?).  A surprising number of you checked the blog in the last two weeks even though there wasn’t anything new, so thanks.

As a way of showing my appreciation, two new blog posts will follow this one!  Wow!  I’ll also be posting exciting HardPressed news later this week!  Just a reminder:  you can save yourself the trouble of checking to see when I’ve written something new by subscribing to Jesse Bloggs.  Then, when I do write something new you’ll be notified automatically by email!  Don’t let the latest technological advancements in convenience pass you by!
